About Alessandra Smolek Braswell
Dr. Braswell leads Geosyntec\'s water resources practice for the Carolinas and has more than 12 years of experience in water resources and environmental engineering. She specializes in urban stormwater management, green infrastructure, and stormwater master planning. Her experience includes: planning, design, and permitting of stormwater control measures (SCMs) for public and private land development projects to meet applicable municipal, state, and federal regulations; hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for flood control; developing watershed-level stormwater management strategies; green infrastructure (GI) and low impact development (LID) design; NPDES permitting compliance; sedimentation analyses; expert witness support for multiple clients to ensure compliance with stormwater management regulations; and development of stormwater ordinances and other technical documents. Dr. Braswell\'s graduate research at North Carolina State University focused on stormwater management in the urban environment, including modeling the annual hydrology of permeable pavements and assessing the water quality benefits of LID treatment trains. She also developed two models that form the basis behind recent NC DEQ guidelines for SCM water quality crediting. She is an experienced project manager with strong organization and communication skills.
