ABOUT ADAM GROSS

I am a Design Principal with Ayers Saint Gross, an Interdisciplinary Design Firm. I began my career working in New York City in 1975 for Richard Meier, and then for Perry Dean Rodgers in Boston from 1977 to 1983. In 1984, I moved to Baltimore to join what was then known as Ayers Saint Architects. I became a Principal in the firm when the company consisted of 8 people. We are now a staff of 180 professionals in multiple offices including Baltimore, Washington DC, and Tempe Arizona. Our mission is to Engage People and Places to Create Designs which Enrich the World. I provide the broad design direction for the firm, and work in close collaboration with many of the firm’s long-standing clients. I have always worked on a mix of architectural design and planning projects. To me design is design, and both buildings and master plans need the same skills and sensitivities. I have also written and lectured extensively on urban design, collegiate architecture and master planning. I love teaching about design, having taught at several architectural schools, most recently at Rodger Williams University. I was also the Fay Jones Chair in Architecture at the University of Arkansas and the Kea Distinguished Professor of Architecture at the University of Maryland. I was also very fortunate to have been a visiting scholar at The American Academy in Rome in 2014.I am married to my wife Fredye who is immersed in the Arts, most notably as a Board Member at the Maryland Institute College of Art and The Baltimore Design School. I have two daughters - Perry who is a fabric artist studying to be an acupuncturist and Kyle who works in data analytics in Washington DC.
