ABOUT YUSUF KHAN
Yusuf is pursuing PhD in Chemical Engineering at University of Strathclyde. His research is funded by AstraZeneca. PhD title: Enhancing sustainability in crystallisation and isolation by recovery of API from mother liquorsSupervisors: Professor Chris Price, Professor Jan Sefcik & Professor Vassilis InglezakisHis project focuses on recovering API from mother & wash liquors by concentrating them using evaporation | OSN (organic solvent nanofiltration). He uses a modelling and predictive approach to predict the amount of API recovered, impurity buildup and sustainability metrics of the process topology and then verifies it experimentally. He is currently undergoing a 3-month work placement at AstraZeneca, Macclesfield where he applies his learnings on an industrial API. He has experience in crystallisation, filtration, washing and drying operations, including operation of continuous filtration, washing and drying (AWL CCFD) equipment. He has used FBRM probes to track particle count during crystallisation. He has experience of using rotary evaporators, organic solvent nano-filtration kits. He is also experienced in HPLC, SEM and PSD techniques.
