Project Trident is a student led initiative aiming to build an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) for the International Robosub Competition in California, USA. This project will be an interdisciplinary project involving students from many different backgrounds to handle management, finances, PR and engineering. Student teams from around the world compete in designing and building robotic submarines, also known as AUVs. The behaviours demonstrated by these experimental AUVs mimic those of real-world systems currently deployed for underwater exploration, seafloor mapping, sonar localization and many other applications.The submarine must be autonomous, with many different electrical components working together to allow it to navigate. This will also involve computer vision, extensive use of robot operating system and fully developed navigation systems to allow it to navigate and complete given tasks autonomously.
