As a Poderosas Fellow with PoderLatinx, I focus on strengthening community engagement in North Carolina while supporting national civic initiatives. Locally, I work to build connections within the Latinx community by striving to register 200 new voters, knock on doors, and foster dialogue around civic participation. Nationally, I collaborate with fellow Poderosas to organize civic engagement events on legislative advocacy and voter protection, while also reaching individuals through coordinated phone and text banking efforts. Trained in tools like VAN and EveryAction, I help streamline event planning and maintain systems that ensure we meet and exceed our field and digital engagement goals across the country.

ABOUT SOPHIE YOST

I am a passionate community builder and advocate, pursuing a double major in Public Policy and History at Duke University with a candidacy for the Markets and Management Certificate. As a student assistant for Polis, Duke\'s Center for Politics, I play a key role in event planning and execution, contribute to the newsletter, and write research highlights. Over the past three years, I have developed a passion for community building and team-work as President of my quad councils, where our team planned events for 450+ residents, managed a budget, and coordinated partnerships with organizations like Duke Women’s Basketball. Beyond these experiences, my passion for arts and policy has shaped my leadership approach—I’ve worked to make the arts more accessible through projects like curating historical archives, leading educational programming, and designing creative civic engagement campaigns. As I work toward completing my degree, I am eager to apply my project management skills, organizational expertise, and creativity to a dynamic pre-professional role that allows me to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact.
