ABOUT XAVIER FOCCROULLE MÉNARD

I am a banking and finance expert lawyer practicing at Stikeman Elliott in Montréal. My practice covers all aspects of debt finance including corporate, acquisition and infrastructure and energy project financing. In this I act for corporate borrowers, financial institutions, insitutional lenders, private equity funds, project sponsors as well as public and private companies in various complex and sophisticated debt financings. I also have an extensive knowledge of debt finance involving digital assets domestically and worldwide.Prior to joining Stikeman Elliott, I have cumulated work experiences including clerking at the Superior Court of Québec, working in Paris at a top tier law firm on fund formation for private equity clients and, for a few years, as a banking and finance associate at a leading Canadian and international law firm in Montréal. I hold a B.C.L.(civil law) and an LL.B./JD (common law) from McGill University Faculty of Law as well as an LL.M. in legal theory from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, and I am licensed to practice in Québec and Ontario. As an eternal student at heart and most definitely a \"law nerd\", I have also published in various areas of law and philosophy in academic journals, magazines and blogs. My research interests relate to banking and finance law, with particular scholarship on cryptocurrency, DeFi and developments in debt and lending, and to legal theory, with an emphasis on natural law, legal interpretation and normative narratives.
