Provides academic, career, retention, financial aid, and financial literacy counseling to a cohort of TRIO students in the program. Develops and provides Individual Student Academic plans, advising, and monitors students’ progress, utilizing grades, conferences, instructor feedback and other appropriate information for new and continuing TRIO students. Plans and provides workshops for students on transfer to four-year college, financial aid, financial literacy, self-management and other study strategy initiatives. Consults with faculty, Office for Students with Disabilities and Deaf Services (OSD/DS), Financial Aid Office, the Center for Academic Program Support (CAPS), and TRIO staff, on behalf of program students. Coordinates the TRIO Ambassadors program. Plans and facilitates TRIO Program Day, monthly workshops, transfer trips, Recognition Ceremony, cultural and other activities for program participants. Assists in developing written materials about TRIO including the TRIO Newsletter, TRIO webpage, TRIO Moodle, and other relevant program materials. Establishes and maintains confidential records and contributes to program record keeping system. Participates in all other operational aspects of the project, including program planning and development.

ABOUT XANDRIA SOTOMAYOR-WRIGHT
Assisting students on their academic and professional journey is of great importance to me, and I am able to continue doing so within my role as Academic Counselor within the TRIO Student Support Services Program at Holyoke Community College. I specialize in working with at risk populations and first generation students of all ages. Most of my work is along the lines of career and professional preparedness as well as mentoring and advising. Colleagues know me as a very dedicated and creative individual who completes a task thoroughly and accurately with time to spare. I tailor to the needs of my clients while still maintaining ethical boundaries. Strong communication, problem solving, and being organized are some of my many skills when it comes to the work environment. Although I am able to work alone, I do best when collaborating with others. Optimism and adaptation are key factors in my professional successes.
