ABOUT WILL SCOTT

The need to decarbonise, to have sustainable transport systems that promote social mobility and encourage growth is real. I am fortunate to be able to look at what is coming next and shape that future for the benefit of those who use and operate our country’s railway.I spent 13 years in the Royal Air Force as an engineer. I ensured people and supplies on aircraft were safe to fly into and out of sometimes inhospitable places, either through conflict or disaster relief effort. I eventually trained and developed others to do the same and this is where I grew the most, wrapping leadership skills around my engineering experience.Why do I think this is important? Well I was 17 when I joined up and left home. Those 13 years were my formative years. Those experiences have shaped and influenced my ambition and values.I haven’t stood still since then! I‘ve enjoyed 14, what seem like short, years building a second career in the rail industry, growing my knowledge and experience in areas of safety, customer focus and leadership. I have learned and experienced a vast amount about business development, strategy, technology development and I’ve helped to build a capability to deliver a railway that is fit for the future and looking at and beyond its immediate challenges for its users and operators.
