WORK HISTORY
Data Test Engineer @Adthena
London, GB
My role involves analysing data at each point of the Extract, Transform and Load process. There are two main areas for checking data - checking it is correct (calculations are done correctly) and checking we don’t have any bad data (unexpected nulls). I do some data checks using SQLs within our Amazon Redshift and PostgresSQL databases, making use of joins, subqueries, aggregate functions and window functions to get specific data to compare. I also do some data checks using notebooks in Apache Zeppelin - creating data frames from data stored in Amazon S3 and using spark sql to analyse data and make comparisons with other data frames. We also have a data automation framework in place - Great Expectations (GE) with Python, which I currently maintain. I have added tests using the vast gallery of expectations (tests) already created by the GE team and other users of GE. I have also created custom expectations, such as comparing two columns don’t have identical values, which I’ve used to check that calculations are correct.

SKILLS
ABOUT VUONG NGUYEN
With over 10 years of experience, I consider myself a specialist in Manual Testing on both Desktop and Mobile web. I have always been interested in learning how systems work rather than follow a set of instructions on how to test. Because of this, I am able to discuss solutions with Business Analyst and Developers before any coding begins which saves time for the project. I joined Adthena on an exciting and challenging position that will surely stretch my skills as a Tester. I got to work with some extremely talented people in the team and develop myself further into a more technical Tester. Prior to this role, I had no exposure to automation testing but I know am able to update broken automation tests after new features and also debug flaky tests to make them more stable. Also, having a tester mind frame, I can amend tests to run as how I would test them to make them more effective. My biggest achievement is being able to integrate TestNG into our current framework to making use of the benefits of this plugin; such as easy grouping of tests, running them in parallel across multiple threads and other useful shortcuts. From being a manual tester to being fully responsible for our automated test suite, I\'m constantly looking at ways to improve our test suite to make them more stable and effective to spot regression bugs as quickly as possible. In my spare time, I have been working on a few small React Native and GatsbyJS projects to develop myself further and learn new techniques which I can apply in my current role. My short term aspiration is to further improve myself as an automation tester with a deeper understanding of code.
