ABOUT VICKI FOX-WILLIAMS

I am an experienced railway signalling professional with a career spanning hands on maintenance, technical governance, and engineering assurance. I began my journey through Network Rail’s Advanced Apprenticeship programme, progressing into over ten years of on track experience as a Signalling Maintainer and Fault Finder. During this time, I achieved my IRSE licence and developed strong practical competencies across a broad range of signalling assets and safety critical responsibilities.From 2020, I moved into the Technical Authority, joining the Switches & Crossings (S&C) team as an Engineer. Working within a Track focused team gave me valuable multi-disciplinary exposure, enhancing my ability to see signalling assets in the wider context of track, civils, and operational constraints. This strengthened my systems thinking approach, enabling me to understand whole system interactions and engineer solutions that balance safety, maintainability, and performance across disciplines.My role included standards development, Product Acceptance, new type testing, and assurance activities such as CSM, DFR, and updates to BRS SM, primarily focused on points operating equipment (POE). This added a strong governance and risk based dimension to my engineering experience.I now serve as a Senior Engineer within the Signalling Maintenance Team in the Technical Authority, providing technical guidance, maintenance leadership, and expert input into national policy, asset strategy, and standards. With experience that bridges front line maintenance, S&C systems, and technical governance, I bring a well rounded, practical perspective to complex signalling challenges.I’m passionate about delivering safe, effective railway operations and supporting the continuous development of signalling engineering practices.
