ABOUT TY DAVIS

Ty grew up in the suburban area of Fort Worth, TX where he had no experience with agriculture until he joined FFA in high school. This experiences from this organization spring-boarded his passion for agriculture and all the processes involved. Ty chose to pursue further education at Oklahoma State University (OSU) where he majored in Animal Science with a minor in Agricultural Economics. Upon his arrival at OSU, he quickly learned that he was behind the learning curve in the realm of Animal Science. However, Ty closed that gap by becoming very involved in on campus clubs, judging teams, and internships. In short, Ty was a part of both the OSU meats and meat animal evaluation judging teams, a member of the Oklahoma Collegiate Cattlemans club, a selected member of the Animal Science Leadership Alliance, and was selected to intern with JBS Five Rivers at their XIT feedyard, JBS USA as a member of their fed beef pricing team, and lastly an intern with Gardiner Angus Ranch. Due to his extensive involvement, Ty was fortunate enough to be awarded several scholarships through the deparment of Animal Science and the College of Agriculture. To cap off his experience at OSU, Ty received the OSU Animal Science Senior Leadership Award. Following up his bachelor\'s, Ty chose to attend Colorado State University (CSU) to pursue his masters in Biomedical Sciences with an emphasis in Assisted Reproductive Technologies. This experience allowed Ty to gain an immense knowledge of reproductive physiology while also gaining experience working with assisted reproductive technologies such as: ICSI, embryo thawing/freezing, semen handling/freezing, and extensive IVF training. Upon graduation from CSU Ty chose to pursue his Ph.D. at Virginia Tech (VT) which he completed in May of 2021. Here, Ty investigated the links between nutrition and reproduction in cattle. This included a meta-analysis and various live animal projects. This experience allowed Ty to lecture in several courses and become the lead teaching assistant in a course titled \"Bovine Reproduction Practices\" where Ty assisted undergraduate students in learning how to artificially inseminate a cow, use ultrasonography to find reproductive organs, and proper semen thawing preparation. He was also an invited speaker to the Virginia Feed Association conference where he presented on his research and the benefits that nutrition can have on reproductive success in cattle. Ty now works with Purina Animal Nutrition as a cattle specialist in the mid-Atlantic area.
