ABOUT TUSHARIKA DEKA

I am an educator, researcher and editor passionate about connecting ideas, people and stories from a local level to an international context. I have over seven years of teaching and research experience and my career has consistently centred on bridging academic learning with workplace practice, supporting students in developing the professional, reflective, and communication skills needed to succeed in diverse career pathways.Currently, I am a Lecturer at Franklin Cummings Tech (FCT), where I am teaching a Cooperative Education program (Co-op) integrated Science of Success course that supports over 100+ students in translating academic knowledge into workplace competencies. I am mentoring first-generation, multilingual students from low-income backgrounds during their co-op placements, guiding professional skill development, workplace communication, and responsible use of AI tools for research, productivity, and problem-solving in real-world settings. In this role. I am also collaborating with co-op coordinators and industry partners to align course outcomes with employer expectations, focused on workforce-relevant competencies, digital literacy and the evolving role of AI in contemporary professional environmentsPreviously, I worked as a Business Instructor at Kaplan International Languages in Boston, MA, where I trained over 400 students (ESL Learners) in the professional communication competencies required for global business environments. My instruction emphasised strategic business communication, data-informed storytelling and brand development. Through customised, project-based instruction, I taught students about brand positioning, market research, methodology, professional and workplace report writing with appropriate referencing standards, prototype development using Figma, and polished business presentations using Canva. For the last seven years, I have also been the Editor at Large and board member for E-International Relations, the largest online for Global Politics and IR. I am also the host of E-IR\'s podcast called Thinking Global. Additionally, it hosts podcasts for the New Books Network and reviews books. I received my PhD in International Relations from the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Nottingham (UoN), with the Vice-Chancellor\'s Scholarship. Previously, I received the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship (CSC) to pursue my MSc in International Relations from the University of Aberdeen. My research has a strong focus on youth, conflict, technology and digital ethnography in developing societies.
