ABOUT TREY KULP

I have been working as a Systems Software Engineer at Space Telescope Science Institute (NASA Contractor) in Baltimore, MD since August 2010. As a Systems Engineer, I work on the requirements and operations concepts for the Science & Operations Center for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). I am both a Systems Engineer for my own domain Wavefront Sensing & Control (WFSC) as well as the larger Science Operations Center (S & OC) and continue to grow in my Systems Engineer skills and scope. As the Wavefront Sensing & Control Software Subsystem (WSS) Development Team Lead I develop, test and operate the WSS software (which consists of the following languages: Java, Python, Grails, IDL, and Matlab). The WSS software is responsible for the deployment, alignment and maintenance of the primary and secondary mirrors of JWST. When not developing I update software documentation, participate in software development scheduling, monthly presentations to NASA Goddard, and I interface with the JWST Mission Office at STScI as a Software Development Lead. I work closely with our partners at Ball Aerospace and NASA for the mirror management software integration with the software I am responsible for. I also provide WSS Software Support to the Flight Operations.I\'ve enjoyed the various working groups that cross organizational boundaries within the Institute as well as our external partners at Ball Aerospace, Northrop Grumman, and NASA Goddard. I have 7 months full-time experience working as an entry level Software Engineer at TECORE Networks in Columbia, MD. I enjoyed working for TECORE and got to develop an interactive screen which monitored various hardware components. I was able to collaborate with other individuals, weighing various design choices and strategies. I enjoyed working as a group and hope to continue to be able to collaborate and create new features and products in a team environment.Specialties: • Experienced with many programming languages: Java, Python C, C++, IDL, Matlab, Bash• Experience in the field with user troubleshooting, providing customer service and satisfaction• Self motivated and determined to find the solution to the problem, resourceful• Approachable and friendly while working, maintaining a professional character
