ABOUT GRACE COVENTRY
I currently serve as the Head of the IT Services Division (ITSD) at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore, MD. STScI is a non-profit organization of approximately 800 employees that provides science operations support to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), and both science and mission operations support to the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), both on behalf of NASA. STScI is also a leading center for astronomical research and collaboration. I am privileged to lead a team of roughly 85 unbelievably smart, talented and committed technologists who strive every day to provide leading-edge technology services and solutions to support the Institute’s mission, and the astronomical community more generally. I serve on the STScI Leadership Team, and have been a leader of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Specific areas of focus include astronomical computing with massive data sets on AWS, advancing adoption of Machine Learning (ML), helping to lead STScI’s adoption of DevOps, and moving towards a zero-trust security architecture. Prior to joining STScI, I served as a Principal Director at Accenture LLC for a period of five years. In that role, I frequently served as the leader of teams providing IT strategy to a number of large clients, particularly within the healthcare domain. Prior to that, I served as a consultant, enterprise architect and systems architect to a number of U.S. Federal organizations, in healthcare and other areas, at General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), and predecessor acquisitions. My personal interests include writing, music, astronomy, photography, and participating in a gender-diverse community I am proud to be a part of.
