In 1991, after a near-death experience, I left the fast-paced lifestyle of a stock options trader to become a social entrepreneur and embarked on a selfless mission of helping others. I went on to start or help build 9 notable nonprofits that address some of America\'s most complex societal issues: Hunger (the Hunger Coalition); substance abuse (Natural High); the environment (Environmental News Network); people with disabilities (Sun Valley Adaptive Sports); abused and traumatized children (Kids First Foundation, and Storybook Farm); bringing tennis and education to inner cities and underserved populations (SCTA Foundation); and one of the nation’s largest and most respected nonprofits that rehabilitates wounded warriors (Higher Ground). Unlike many strategists, facilitators, and speakers who speak from \"theory,\" I have gritty, in-the-trenches experience and know firsthand the hardships facing nonprofits. My diverse nonprofit and philanthropic experience combined with my background in business, marketing, and leadership give me a unique perspective into the soul of helping others start, build, scale, and manage thriving organizations - of all types.
