Rearchitected Envato Elements\'s item indexing pipeline with the Search Bees squad, moving from a single-threaded Heroku batch job to a serverless architecture, scaling throughput from ~200 items/sec to items/sec while reducing search indexing infrastructure cost from ~$3k/month to ~$300/month on average- Built the indexing foundation that enabled the team\'s rollout of Marqo Ecommerce vector search indexes across photos, video templates, music, and stock video, with search-to-download conversion lifting by up to 28% for photos (19% → 24.4%) and 12% for video templates (14.5% → 16.2%)- Reduced time to stand up a new search index from weeks to 1–2 days, bringing the full experiment cycle (index creation, relevance tuning, and A/B test setup) from ~4 weeks down to ~1 week- Redesigned the curated content publishing pipeline, replacing a manual spreadsheet-based process that took the team 1–2 months to plan and prioritise with an automated CMS-driven flow that curators self-serve in minutes- Designed and delivered the data-producing pipelines for search and recommendations, standardising them on AWS Glue with a process designed to be AI-agent-friendly and reusable across teams. The standardised format cut processing size by ~90%, sending megabytes instead of gigabytes, which simplified ongoing updates and made incremental syncs significantly faster- Championed internal tooling for search relevance work: an LLM-as-judge evaluation framework and a search playground platform for cross-team experimentation during hackathons- Mentored engineers on technical growth, AI-assisted development, and decision-making practices including writing RFCs, hype docs, and cross-domain collaboration- Shaping technical direction and roadmap for search and recommendations infrastructure across Envato\'s marketplace, balancing hands-on platform engineering with cross-team architectural guidance.
