Thomas is a Distinguished Engineer at IBM watsonx development in Boeblingen, Germany, working on watsonx architecture and integration, and leading the watsonx Solutions Architecture CoE. watsonx is IBM\'s cloud-native Enterprise AI platform based on OpenShift, available as software and as a service, to collaboratively analyse data, build AI/Gen AI models, and deploy these for production use at scale with comprehensive AI governance. The watsonx Solution Architecture CoE works and co-develops with key customers like SAP and Adobe, develops watsonx-based software assets such as the Q&A with RAG accelerator, and connects development and field teams.Previously, Thomas led architecture and technical strategy for IBM OpenPages while on an assignment in the US 2013/14. He drove transformation of architecture and technical strategy for IBM OpenPages, adoption of IBM Design Thinking, and worked with major OpenPages customers.Earlier, Thomas led architecture and technical strategy for IBM Connections and integration its with WebSphere Portal, Enterprise Content Management, Business Process Management, Smart Social Q&A, and worked with large enterprise customers.On assignment in the US from 2004 to 2006, Thomas led collaboration software architecture, development, and performance for messaging and web conferencing, driving acceleration of development productivity and large improvements in performance and scalability.Previously, Thomas led architecture and technical direction for the WebSphere Portal Platform, initiated and led the portal standards Java Portlet API, OASIS WSRP and Apache open source reference implementations, and worked with key customers in Germany and Europe to help architect their web portals.
