ABOUT THOMAS HITHERSAY
Hello there! My name is Thomas. I am an Economics (BSc) student at the University Of Surrey with a passion for Technology and Economics. I have worked in Sales Ops at a Fortune 500 company (IBM) and also held a management role at a leading British Retail Firm (Dunelm). About Me I consider myself to be a dedicated and disciplined individual. I work well under pressure, maintaining a calm demeanor and delivering results even in the most hectic environments. I work well both as an individual and in a group, often as the leader. I enjoy challenges and face adversity with a positive mindset. Academic Journey As part of my Bachelors in Economics so far, I have led group projects in both Statistics and Data Analysis modules; both of which received first class grades. My year 1 grade average was 84.13%, my year 2 89.75%, placing me among the very best students at the University\'s school of Economics. I received a letter from the School for amazing academic performance in the first year. My studies at the University thus far have provided me with strong quantitative and analytical skills. Work Experience During my time at Dunelm, one of the UK\'s biggest soft-furnishings retailers, I served in the management team of the Colliers Wood branch in South London. In the role, I managed my own trade and stock teams but also had to take responsibility for the store as a whole; particularly during the pandemic. The role required me to both lead and manage under a high pressure environment. I successfully delivered multiple store campaigns, greatly improved in-store operations and developed effective retail strategies. Career Break Following a decision to pursue a career outside of retail, I moved to Seoul, Korea where I enrolled at Hanyang University, one of Korea\'s top 5 Universities. During my time at Hanyang, I studied Korean language up to the upper-intermediate level. I received a scholarship for exceptional performance during my studies. This experience changed my perspective on the world and also what I wanted to achieve in my life and career. I spent a total of 1 year in Korea. Upon arrival back into the UK, I enrolled at the University Of Surrey where I began my journey in economics. Going Forward I am eager to establish a new step in my career by looking for opportunities in technology, finance, public policy and other fields. I am looking to use the skills I have developed both at University and the workplace but also develop new ones. I am always open to meeting and connecting with others, as well as learning something new!
