ABOUT MATTHEW DEBSKI

I am an engineering leader and manager. At Google, I led a team of managers and senior individual contributors on to build part of Google Maps Platform. We enable developers worldwide to build their products and services using Google\'s real-world solutions and location insights.As a manager, my team members appreciate how I work with them to identify growth opportunities for them and the team, nurture the team\'s psychological safety, and develop an aspirational vision and strategy. My peers and managers value my technical acumen and collaborative focus and that they can rely on me to get things done. Customers surely recognize my focus on quality and reliability in the products and services my team releases.I run full-stack teams, developing products end-to-end and from inception through launch and landing. These products include scalable backend services, SDK and front-end development, and pipeline development for logs analysis, metrics and dashboards for internal and external consumption.I\'ve managed teams in large corporations (Sun Microsystems and Google) and startups (Skybox Imaging). I\'ve provided technical leadership and oversight without management responsibility (as Technical Director at Pano Logic).As a technologist, I am a Generalist. I quickly gain the required expertise in the relevant problem domain, applying solid problem solving and research skills. My Masters thesis, work at EFI, Pano Logic, and Skybox Imaging required in-depth understanding of embedded programming. This work included adjusting assembly by hand of Texas Instruments DSPs, debugging hard real-time requirements of a low-level data bus, and writing Windows and Linux device drivers.At the other end of the spectrum, while at Google, Kealia, Sun Microsystems, and Skybox Imaging I\'ve worked with distributed systems with both home-grown and industry-standard messaging protocols. At one point I swear I could use Wireshark without any packet translators and tell what the machines were telling each other (or, as was more often the case, weren\'t telling each other).
