Oversight of the University of Adelaide’s (UofA)’s strategic relationship with the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN), alongside wider Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (FHMS) business development responsibilities. This primarily concerns bolstering the volume and quality of research being conducted between the two institutions by working with clinician scientists to explore capabilities and access aligned funding. This is benchmarked by the management and growth of an associated portfolio of both research income and industry partners. Duties include the development of business plans for internal research teams or surrounding institutes, bid coordination for tender opportunities, scoping and establishing contract/consultancy research, and negotiating terms and conditions of funding agreements. Further, I manage commercial development for a set of ongoing projects within the FHMS. Tasks commonly involve reviewing lodged invention disclosures, assess novelty of claims proposed with research teams, interpreting intellectual property (IP) position and assigning lead agreement where necessary, working with internal IP specialists to file suitable patents, providing commercial development plan (internal development schemes and external capital raising), arranging industry discussions and performing due diligence compliance procedures, and exploring licensing deals or spin-out potential for technologies.
