ABOUT TARA MARTIN

I am a Professor in Conservation Decision Science with the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Canada. I am also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland. The overarching goal of my research is to improve our ability to observe and predict impacts of global change on biodiversity and natural resources for the purpose of using this information to inform smart and timely conservation decisions. To this end, my research bridges the gap between scientific discovery and real world conservation and natural resource management decision making. I achieve this through expertise in and pioneering two key domains. The first is predictive ecology – developing and using state-of-art ecological modelling techniques to make robust predictions about the state of biodiversity and natural resources under global change. The second is conservation decision science – combining ecological models with decision theory to answer questions about which conservation management actions will provide the best biodiversity and natural resource management outcomes for the least cost to society. For more on what my team and I work on check out -
