WORK HISTORY
Masters Thesis Optimization of a Fully Automated Robotic System @BASF
Teach and optimize robot motion sequences using and Virtual TP for precise, safe, and efficient automated weighing operations. • Implement fume hood safety concepts, including interlocks and emergency stop mechanisms, ensuring compliant and secure robot operation.• Develop and continuously refine a GUI-based workflow system for sample selection, weighing operations, and process monitoring based on structured XML input. • Integrate the robotic platform with BASF’s LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) using Python and structured XML workflows to retrieve sample metadata, automate weighing execution, and ensure full digital traceability of results.• Implement computer vision using Canon AF N10-W02 camera, OpenCV, YOLO, and stereo calibration for automatic container recognition and dynamic height adjustment.• Simulate and validate end-to-end robotic workflows in Denso EMU to optimize efficiency and reduce on-site iteration time before deployment.

ABOUT TANMAY TOTALA
Transforming ideas into automated solutions that make modern industries smarter, safer, and more efficient.\'\'I am a Mechatronics Engineer specializing in Robotics, Automation, and Computer Vision, currently completing my Master’s Thesis at BASF, where I am optimizing a fully automated robotic system for the weighing of powder samples within a digital laboratory environment. My work spans robot programming (Denso Cobotta, WinCAPS PacScript), automated weighing workflows, LIMS integration, computer vision (OpenCV, YOLO, stereo calibration), and robotic simulation using EMU. I focus on building reliable, safe, and efficient autonomous processes that support Industry 4.0 and smart‑lab automation. Previously, I worked 2.5 years as a Computer Vision Engineer at Accenture, developing vision‑based defect‑detection systems for Electrolux. This improved inspection reliability and reduced manual quality‑control workload, strengthening my expertise in Python, OpenCV, data processing, and industrial automation. I bring a unique combination of industrial robotics, computer vision, and automation engineering, and I’m passionate about developing scalable, intelligent systems that bridge the digital and physical worlds.
