ABOUT SUZANNE KERNOHAN
Suzanne’s career in policing spanned over 29 years within the Toronto Police Service. She completed her last 10 years of service as a detective with the elite Sex Crimes Unit. Throughout the years she investigated many gender-based crimes including sexual assault and domestic violence. Suzanne was a member of the V.I.P. Squad of the Intelligence Bureau and worked on the Michelle and Barack Obama protection team during the 2010 G20 Summit. Suzanne received accreditation as a Sexual Assault/Child Abuse and Domestic Violence investigator. As a result of her expertise in sexual assault investigations, Suzanne formed the Sexual Assault Advisory Committee (SAAC), a multi-disciplinary group from the legal profession, health care profession, and community agencies that work to improve how a system responds to sexual assault. Early in her career, Suzanne worked in an undercover capacity specializing in crimes involving prostitution and the exploitation of women. Suzanne continues to work in her area of expertise as a sexual consent and awareness educator working with members of the legal profession including police, crown prosecutors and defense lawyers. She provides structured sessions in awareness of sensitive issues such as harassment, sexual harassment, bullying, cyberbullying, domestic violence and sexual assault.
