ABOUT SUZANNE HEAPE

I help people in work and travel to have a more enjoyable, safe, and efficient, experience. Why - because I love it.I care about their experience. Human Factors addresses the human puzzles of design. Using my skills I can guide and advise engineers designing and building a product or system to be used by people, so what is delivered is fit for purpose. It meets user requirements and is intuitive, efficient, effective, and safe to use.I graduated with an MSc in Ergonomics from Loughborough in 2001 and have worked as an HF expert since. During this time I have gained expertise applying HF in diverse industries from medical devices and production lines to military vehicles, highways, and rail. From Jan 2008 to April 2019 I was employed by two of the most influential rail suppliers worldwide; Westinghouse and Siemens. Improving their products and systems and their integration of HF in design and implementation. At Siemens I was head of HF and developed HF processes for Bids and R&D, as well as leading the HF team. I have worked on rail systems in the uk and abroad that delivered new or modified control centres, train cabs, signalling, maintenance, and training systems. As my knowledge, skills, and experience have grown, my passion for HF has grown. I have been involved with the ERA HF Network influencing legislation, worked with the CIEHF collating HF case studies, available on their website, and worked with a small team responding to a government call for consultation on automation of vehicles on motorways. I have disseminated HF knowledge and skills to others since through training courses and presentations at conferences, where I impart lessons learned, highlight the importance of HF integration into design and illustrate how HF integration can improve success. In my new position as Principal Human Factors Consultant at Pendyne Ltd, I can offer Human Factors expertise to a wider audience as a highly experienced consultant. I look forward to the new challenges this may bring.
