ABOUT CHARLES TWORT

With over 25 years of experience in the railway industry, I am a seasoned engineering director, board advisor, and mentor. I have a PhD in mechanical engineering and I am a chartered engineer and a fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. As the Global Head of Operability and Staffing at Bombardier, I led the strategic and operational aspects of the vehicle operability and global staffing functions across North America, Europe, and Asia. I was also a member of the UK executive board and responsible for the finance, HSE, resource, operations, and HR of the UK engineering division. I have a proven track record of delivering complex and innovative engineering solutions, managing large and diverse teams, and driving transformation and performance improvement. Currently, I serve as a board advisor for Norton Straw, where I provide guidance and challenge on strategic development, leadership evolution, competency and capability, and performance management. I also leverage my board skills and industry knowledge as a member of the UK Railway Technical Board at RSSB, where I help shape the strategic vision and implementation plan for the UK railway industry. Additionally, I volunteer as a member and chair of various educational trust boards, where I support the development and governance of schools and academies. I am passionate about engineering excellence, coaching and mentoring, and creating value and impact. I enjoy working with diverse and talented people, learning from different perspectives and experiences, and collaborating on challenging and rewarding projects. I am always looking for new opportunities to apply my skills and expertise, and to contribute to the advancement and sustainability of the railway sector.
