ABOUT SUSAN THOMPSON

I’m a multidisciplinary artist with gallery experience in selecting, installing and promoting exhibitions. I’m passionate about photography and video editing and can manage and grow social media accounts while enhancing artist and gallery recognition. I’m a volunteer for the Fort Gallery and I enjoy helping with art installations and exhibits while taking pictures for digital marketing. My own artwork has been featured in various exhibitions including- ‘Coevality’ in 2017 for the UFV diploma grad show (film photography and printmaking submissions)- ‘Grasslands’ in 2017 at the Penticton Art Gallery (silk-screened original image)- ‘Interpret: Creative and Performing Arts Festival’ at UFV in 2019 (mixed-media installation)- ‘Strange Times’ Abbotsford Arts Council online digital exhibition 2020 (digital photography and written pandemic experience)- ‘Frame’ exhibition at the Pitt Meadows Art Gallery in 2021 (digital photography)- ‘Arising’ by Yoko Ono, Vancouver Art Gallery, 20••••22. For this exhibit I provided a testament of harm that I’ve experienced as a woman and survivor of domestic violence, along with an impactful photograph of my eyes- ‘Art & Fashion’ group exhibition, Langley Arts Council, summer of 2024. Multimedia collage entitled ‘Marketing & Muses.’In addition to my creative abilities I’ve also worked as a caregiver. In 2006 I studied Early Childhood Education at Langara College in Vancouver. I was employed as a licensed childcare provider at daycares and preschools until I became a mother in 2009. Upon my return to the workforce in 2013 I worked part-time as a children’s art instructor while I studied for my post-secondary degree. After my beloved job at the ACT Arts Centre was terminated during the COVID-19 pandemic I found that good jobs in the visual arts are very hard to come by. I’ve since adjusted my focus to working in creative retail environments. I’m currently employed by Indigo in a customer service role and am enjoying the structure and benefits that come from working for a large and successful company. I’m also a great lover of literature and appreciate all the books I’m exposed to as part of my job.
