ABOUT STRATOS HADJIOANNOU
I am a chemical engineer passionate about data science with experience in predictive maintenance and operations efficiency. I am inspired to get everyone interested on the fields of machine learning, data visualisation and data mining enabling him or her to carry out their daily job more effectively and efficiently. As we are moving towards a data driven future, data science is not just another study, is an essential skill that everyone should have in his or her toolbox. About two years ago, while I was still pursuing my degree, I thought it was time to learn some new skills. Having a natural interest in programming and always loving a new challenge I decided to start learning Python. Upon taking my first two online courses, I started discovering the world of “data science” as the contents progressed onto subjects such as data manipulation using Pandas, matrix transformations using Scipy / Numpy and machine learning using Scikit learn. Within ten days I was hooked! I signed up to various courses on both Coursera and Udemy and got two great books that enabled me to understand the algorithms. I then decided to pursue my own individual projects. I first experimented with Convolutional Networks to build a mini facial recognition app. I then combined my chemical engineering background and started learning more about predictive maintenance. I worked on a couple of projects using maintenance work orders and sensor data to predict equipment failure. Following a year as a Control & Automation engineer in BP I decided to pursue my passion and joinned National Grid as an Associate Data Scientist. I can now fast track my knowledge and understanding of this incredible subject through various projects centered around improving asset lifecycle and operation efficiency. My future development will be on data science reporting and effective client interaction to deliver valuable data science project.
