ABOUT STEVE KELLY
Started in print way back in 1985 at Silverscreen in Newcastle direct from a YTS scheme ( remember those ). Worked my way up from the general dogs body to machine operative. Gained experience in a wide range of printing formats, hand bench & sheet fed screen printing, printing t-shirts, pens, golf balls, posters, banners, placards & much more. I eventually settled in the label printing department working on a twin colour screen printing machine. After 6 years at Silverscreen Newcastle I was moved to the Newton Aycliffe site, where a remained for a further 6 years. In that time I gained experience on a Smag 4 colour screen printing press, Newfoil 5500 Hot Foil & Embossing press producing work for Black & Decker, Flymo & Nissan. I also gained experience & became competent in screen & flexo plate making. After a total of 12 years I moved to Labelling Dynamics in Gateshead initially as a hot foil printer, producing work for Proctor & Gamble as well as hot foil & embossing well known brands such as Tia Maria, Lambs Navy Rum & Black Heart Rum. Over time I ran the hot foil printing department & was solely responsible for ordering foils, tooling, planning schedules making sure it ran smooth & efficiently. After a few years I moved within the group onto a Combination Press which consisted of flexo, litho & rotary screen print process & after that onto an Arpeco flexo 8 colour. Labelling Dynamics was taken over by Skanem a few years after I started. Skanem ultimately closed but by that time I had moved to Reflex Labels in Gateshead where I started on a Mark Andy before they replaced that with an MPS EF510 10 colour press. Printing on 50-300g board doing sleeve products for the food industry as well as filmic products for the aerosol market, Airwick, Vanish, Cillit Bang etc. I was made Production Supervisor 5 years ago, a position I take great pride in. Trained Fire Marshall.IOSH Safety Management. Completed the hallowed 26.2 mile of the Edinburgh Marathon at 44 year old. Hardest thing I have ever done.
