ABOUT STEVE JAMES

Steve has worked in the Nondestructive Testing technology for 30 plus years. His experience included the NDT of advanced aerospace materials which include; the ultrasonic inspection (longitudinal & shear waves), technique development and validation, of large titanium diffusion bond assemblies, super plastically formed titanium truss core panels, metal matrix composites, select net shape hot isotropic process (HIP) components, and select laser melt metallic components. Ultrasonic studies included seeded HIP’d capsule and detection levels evaluated, HIP bonded coatings, complex shapes with multiple material types. Various Inconel based alloys were used. A member and contributor for the American Society Test & Materials (ASTM) E-07 Nondestructive Testing Committee with an active role in the ultrasonic E-07-06 and emerging technologies E-07-10. Have authored new standard practices and processed five year reviews for standard practices. A current member, past vice chair and chair, member-at-large, and contributor to the Aerospace Industries Association Nondestructive Subcommittee responsible for the custodianship of the National Aerospace Specification (NAS410) NDT personnel qualification and certification standard I have worked with many of the US’s aerospace companies.Experience with the implementation requirements of NASA STD 1249 and NASA-STD-5009. Steve has written Nondestructive Test Plans for the application of Fracture Control NDT in support of NASA programs.
