Experience -1300+ hours rotary (EC135 + H145)350+ hours night 200+ hours NVISHEMS qualified HTCM on the H145. I have also been HEMS qualified on the EC135 T2+ and I am qualified to operate on the King Air 200 as a medical passenger. I am currently HEMS Line Checked and NVIS HEMS Line Checked on the H145.As a HEMS qualified HTCM crew member I have the additional responsibilities over my normal paramedic duties for following guidelines as laid down in the CAA\'s AMC1 SPA.HEMS.130(e) Crew requirements of Subpart J: Helicopter Emergency Medical Service. As a HTCM I assist the pilot with aircraft operational duties such as refuelling, re-rolling, aircraft moving and handling etc. I assist the pilot during flight with navigation/route planning using maps and digital navigation aids, checklists, emergency action cards, radio communications on both airwave and aircraft specific systems whilst maintaining general situational awareness of air traffic and ground hazards including reconnaissance of HEMS landing site.For night HEMS operations I assist the pilot by using the aircraft’s night vision imaging systems (NVIS) to enhance flight safety and assess unsurveyed landing sites, balancing the need to select a safe and suitable landing site with the need to get to the patient quickly.I maintain both primary and secondary competencies, enabling myself to work as part of a trauma/retrieval team and liaise with the Specialist Services Desk/Trauma Desk and receiving hospitals to co-ordinate patient transfer and appropriate destination.
