ABOUT STACY WHITTLE
I’m a writer, director, actor, and producer who has lived in four countries and worked in more than a dozen.I started acting professionally at sixteen in a television special on teen pregnancy, and later appeared on the History Channel in Haunted History New York. During my senior year of high school, I lived in Argentina, where I learned Spanish.I studied anthropology at Catholic University and George Washington University while continuing to act. I was nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Award for playing Lucy in Dracula, and as an undergrad, I was selected for an archaeological expedition in Maui, where our team uncovered a fishing village more than a thousand years old. That work is now permanently installed at the Maui Historical Society.After college, I worked as a field archaeologist, then earned my MPA from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, with a focus on international economics. My work later took me into international development through the Middle East Institute at Harvard\'s Kennedy School, Save the Children, and the Society for International Development.I later lived in Ireland, where I returned to theater, and in Bahrain, where I co-founded Culture Vultures, an organization that brought art, literature, music, and opera to the Gulf.Back in the U.S, I moved more fully into film and creative work. My early work included a collaboration with NASA on a GIS initiative. I later founded Block of Love and have spent the past several years producing films almost full-time, especially for the U.S. Forest Service and related partners, while continuing to act, direct, and write. My film work has received Telly Awards, Anthem Awards, and recognition from the U.S. Forest Service.I’ve performed in dozens of plays in Washington, D.C. Waiting for Godot, which I co-directed and produced, was Helen Hayes Recommended, and I was one of the actors in a Helen Hayes Award-winning production. Most recently, I directed Rolando Villazón in a short film about the importance of trees in cities while he was directing La Sonnambula at Lincoln Center. I’m currently in production on an animated film in which he stars as a tree.I’m the mother of two incredible sons.
