Lowitja Institute Scholarships aim to support the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health researchers. Scholarships contribute to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership of health research by providing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to develop skills in areas relevant to meaningful health research.Over the course of the Scholarships program, Lowitja Institute has facilitated opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at all levels within the health research workforce and have funded more than 160 students. These talented scholars have undertaken certificates, diplomas, cadetships, and higher degrees by research.I am grateful to contribute to this scholarship program as an External Assessor.

ABOUT SOPHIE MURRAY
Sophie Murray is a proud Dieri and Arabana woman living and working on Kaurna Yerta (Adelaide). With a background in management, Aboriginal Studies and business leadership, Sophie has worked across a range of industries to identify, reduce, and remove barriers to access and participation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities. In her current role, Sophie works at the University of South Australia as the Partner Engagement Manager for Aboriginal Research, ensuring meaningful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, knowledges, and communities. Sophie has owned and operated her own business, working in Cultural Safety and regularly supports the development and delivery of Reconciliation Action Plans, including her role as Chair of Netball South Australia’s inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan Aboriginal Advisory Group, and most recently working with Study Adelaide. Sophie celebrates Aboriginal ways of Knowing, Being and Doing, and embeds these values in all her work.
