The mission of the Protective Force Division is to support the Laboratory’s research and development efforts by providing protection for life and property assets in accordance with the Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) standards. The Protective Force Division Lieutenant/Watch Commander serves as a principal shift manager and security incident commander, responsible for the oversight and management of armed uniformed staff involved with the physical security of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory - 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The lieutenant has expertise and provides leadership in the response to a variety of security incidents (e.g, active shooter, barricaded suspects, etc.). The responsibilities of the lieutenant also include making command decisions during day-to-day operations; directing, coordinating, and overseeing staff assignments; training and development; preparing security event reports; investigating incidents and complaints; and developing security plans for major events, such as dignitary visits and demonstrations. The PFD Lieutenant also works in close collaboration with other federal organizations and local law enforcement agencies to address any security issues that may impact the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
