ABOUT SHANTEÉ FELIX
I’ve been a storyteller for as long as I can remember, from writing fairy tales about my dolls to penning true stories in my high school and college newspapers. Today, I continue to write, even though my platform has changed. I am the media relations manager at the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA). In this position, I tell the true story of an agency with 2,500+ employees that handles billions of dollars worth of road projects statewide. I write and edit press releases and conduct television, radio and newspaper interviews, among other tasks. Before entering the public relations field, I spent more than 15 years as a newspaper journalist. Being in a newsroom taught me how to thrive under deadline pressure, to write quickly and concisely and the importance of self editing. Additionally, I serve as Sergeant of Arms for Highway Masters, MDOT SHA’s chapter of Toastmasters, and am a member of the Baltimore Association for Black Journalists. I’m an avid reader and podcast listener (New York Times Review of Books, New Yorker Fiction and LeVar Burton Reads are a few favorites). In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, movies and music.
