ABOUT SHALAKA LAXMAN

I work at the intersection of finance and sustainability, with a focus on how capital can support real-economy transition, particularly in emerging markets, where the need (and complexity) is greatest. As a Director in Sustainable Finance at Standard Chartered, I focus on developing and scaling solutions that help clients navigate the transition to a low-carbon economy. This includes building products and frameworks, advising on credible transition pathways, and working across markets to mobilise capital toward sectors where it can have the most impact. A core part of my work involves translating complex sustainability challenges into practical financial solutions, bridging the gap between ambition and execution, and contributing to how transition finance is defined and delivered in practice. I’m particularly interested in: • Unlocking capital flows into emerging markets • Supporting credible, real-economy transition plans • Ensuring the transition is both scalable and equitable I returned to banking after a year-long sabbatical, during which I explored a portfolio career—travelling, consulting on sustainability topics, and building my creative practice. This included: • Running my art and homeware brand, By Shax (still active) • Advising early-stage companies on ESG and sustainability • Writing a weekly newsletter on sustainability, careers, and creativity (still active) • Serving as a course assessor for the Sustainable Finance certification at the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership • Documenting it all via musings and personal essays in a monthly newsletter: https://thejugglenewsletter.substack.com/ Outside of work, I’m passionate about gender equality, design, travel, music, reading, and all things cat related.
