Lady luck must have been shining down on me all those years ago…At 17 I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I knew that university was on the cards, but it was more of an expectation than a conscious choice. Anyway, call it luck or intervention from my subconscious but I chose a marketing degree, and I thank my lucky stars that I did.What is it that I enjoy so much about marketing? It’s just so me. Granted, the day-in and day-out isn’t always rainbows and sunshine, but on the whole I find it’s so varied and challenging. My marketing role is broad and hands-on, and that is exactly what I revel in.Over the years I have learnt so many new skills. I know my.psds from my.pngs, my RGBs from my CMYKs, my organic SEO from my PPC, and my VLOOKUPs from my SUMIFs. I love learning little tips and tricks… did you know that ALT+0176 makes a degree sign? Might not sound mind-blowing but, trust me, when you are re-branding your company literature and have to format 60+ technical datasheets in the new design, then every little tip and trick that saves a few seconds here and there is very welcome! One of my favourite tasks is checking the Google AdWords account over my daily coffee (I am a flat white girl if you were wondering). Is there anything more satisfying than adding a pesky search term to your negative keywords list and knowing that irrelevant word won’t cost you a penny more ever again!Okay, making changes to the website and seeing an increased number of customer enquiries also ranks highly too - will you let me have two favourite tasks? Did I mention I like writing? In an ideal world I’ll have a mechanical pencil and a sheet of A3 paper to brain-storm my next idea or concept. Admittedly, my iPad and Apple Pencil are giving them a run for their money lately.Oh, and I am definitely a thinker. In fact, I often preface an email with ‘I’ve been thinking.’Before I leave you to get on with your day, I want to share one final thing (something non-work related). I love running! It ticks so many boxes. I’m competitive so I’m always looking to beat my own times, I love fresh air and it helps me to keep on top of my anxieties.
