ABOUT SARA BLOOM

I am the Quality Places Director for the Kansas Department of Commerce. In my role, I proactively engage with communities across the state to address community asset opportunities for childcare, placemaking, housing and more. I provide specialized skills in community engagement, project planning, project management, and evaluation of communities, working with the resources of the Quality Places Division and Commerce. My division oversees programs like the Community Service Tax Credits, SIGNS and TAPS Grants, and Kansas Community Empowerment. I received my bachelor\'s degree from Fort Hays State University in Communications but my past boasts a background in everything from marketing, journalism, sales, graphic design, and economic development. My path has never been a boring one, and I\'ve had many unique positions, including TV News Producer for a major metropolitan station and even Yellow Page Telephone Sales. I am an award-winning Graphic Designer, winning the 2015 MARCOM Gold Award. I was recognized by the Hays Area Chamber of Commerce as the 2017 Rising Star in recognition of leadership and service within my profession and the community. I graduated with the Leadership Kansas class of 2022. Most recently, I was honored as the 2023 Kansas Department of Commerce Employee of the Year. No matter my location or position, I have always been community and outreach-minded. It’s never just about the job but how I can make a difference in the world around me. At home, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Kael, and three children. My hobbies include reading, motorcycles, Cardinals baseball, and playing the cello. I am active on several community boards and within my church. Challenge your limits, NEVER limit your challenges!
