ABOUT SAMUEL BROADWAY
I’m currently in my fourth year of an undergraduate degree and successfully completed my year-in-industry with Perspectum Oxford. I’m also applying my self in a clinical genomics placement at the Julia Garnham Centre. My diverse background in biomedical science gives me a broad knowledge base that I’m eager to translate into a research career. My placement at Perspectum has strengthened my research science skills. I trained as a UK-Biobank researcher and worked on uncovering proteomic associations in liver disease. Additionally, I supported the management of various Perspectum-sponsored clinical trials and FDA grants, which were crucial to the company’s success. My next step is to develop my clinical scientist capabilities through a placement at the esteemed Julia Garnham Centre. In February 2026, I achieved in-house competence for variant analysis 1st check by a scientist and am currently working on reclassifying historic live cases. My desire to understand and be curious continues to fuel my passion for science and technology. Through my experiences, I’ve learnt that self-motivation and hard work are both essential for success. I’m committed and organised, using a growth mindset to overcome challenges. Current Achievements - PCEP Python Programming Qualified - IHC E6 GCP Qualified - MRC Research GDPR Qualified - UK Biobank Research Qualified -Variant analysis competent - Biology A level, Chemistry A level, Environmental Science A level, Core Maths, EPQ Grades: A, A, A, A, A. I’m also ambitious about laboratory work and have had valuable opportunities to explore it at both sixth form and university. For example, I worked alongside the Babraham Institute on a project involving the PTEN protein. This experience helped me develop key skills like PCR, restriction endonuclease use and gel electrophoresis. I also had the chance to learn clinical lab work during my placement with Perspectum. I was taught standards of practice for DNA purification and quantification using Nanodrop and importantly safe blood handling in an NHS laboratory. I visited Sygnature Discovery in Macclesfield for a day of teaching about flow cytometry mass spectrometry and the corporate side of their company. This was invaluable as I could apply this knowledge to my studies and further my passion for drug design and research science.
