ABOUT SAM BROOKS
I am currently working at BBC Radio 5 Live as a Journalism Coordinator. My role involves coordinating the phone answering broadcast journalists that operate the open phone in systems of the radio’s top programmes. I organise rotas, schedules and the provision of pastoral care and training opportunities. In addition to this, I support the wider 5 Live team and editors with administrative support, helping to coordinate our coverage of large scale major events in News, Sport and Culture, such as the 2026 World Cup.I have worked as a Production Coordinator Apprentice in BBC Children’s & Education for the past 18 months, working across digital and social content, Bitesize educational web content, and live events. My experience at the BBC extends to being a runner at live shows like Children in Need, Comic Relief and Sports Personality of the Year Awards, and I have undertaken additional shadowing opportunities at BBC Sport.In January and February 2026, I worked as a Production Secretary at Purple Productions (Objective Media Group) on their daytime documentary TV show Doorbell Detectives for BBC One.A Drama graduate of the University of Manchester, and having achieved a First Class degree, I am pursuing a career in production management in the film and TV industry in the North West. Having held a variety of roles both across two pre-university gap years and during my time at university, the BBC and Purple, I possess excellent leadership skills and the ability to work seamlessly in a team, and I am a skilled communicator. I have experience with MS Outlook, Smartsheets, Smartbook and PMI.As well as having held a variety of different jobs as listed below, I also have an extensive background in theatre and performance, as well as children’s education and care. From 2019 to 2021, I worked at Kellett School: The British International School in Hong Kong, as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, and from 2016 to 2021 I worked as an after school drama teacher at Faust International Youth Theatre in Hong Kong.
