ABOUT RYAN ZIEBARTH

PhD Candidate in Civil Engineering at Dalhousie University with a focus on rock mechanics, studying numerical methods to determine the strength of an anisotropic rock mass to facilitate slope stability analysis. Previously received my MASc in Mineral Resource Engineering, focusing on a probabilistic design approach to the Q-system to more accurately estimate rock quality and design limits for ground support. My focus will continue to be on rock mechanics, studying numerical methods to determine the strength of an anisotropic rock mass to facilitate slope stability analysis and stability analysis of underground excavations.Before returning to academia, I worked as a Mining Engineer for seven years, planning and overseeing mine dewatering, reclamation, excavation and placements. Throughout my career, I have been involved in a wide range of technical and operational groups, developing comprehensive knowledge in the mining and construction industry. On the managerial side, I have provided asset management for different construction companies. As a consultant, I provided technical support for oil sand industry operators and contractors and performed site investigation analysis for hard rock operations. My tasks have included economic evaluations of fleets, assessments of tailings systems, short and long-range production planning, geological model development, drill-core logging, packer testing, televiewer analysis, and laboratory compressive testing.Colleagues know me as a goal-oriented individual who uses effective communication to mitigate stress in groups to ensure targets are achieved. I’m a creative individual who seeks innovative methods to enhance productivity while aligning with company ideologies. I can work well alone, but I’m at my best when collaborating with others.
