Served as the head of the communication department and as the senior-most communication expert on staff. — Led and oversaw the creation and implementation of integrated strategic communication and marketing plans, both for the organization as a whole and each of the organization’s initiatives. — Shaped the strategic and operational work of the entire organization by serving as a member of the organization’s senior leadership team. — Worked in deep collaboration with experts from other fields (e.g, policy and grant-making) to develop goal-oriented, audience-focused and data-driven communication strategies. — Led recruitment and hiring for communication-related positions, and provided management, mentoring and coaching for department staff. — Overhauled the communication department, focusing on storytelling and the foundational aspects of communication, marketing and branding for owned, digital, earned and paid media. — Served as a member of the development team, providing thought partnership and messaging guidance. As part of this work, produced the organization’s 10th anniversary virtual gala. — Spearheaded a brand refinement process that resulted in the creation of a new brand style guide, refreshed logo suite and a new website.(Viewership of the new website increased by more than two-thirds, and the average length of time spent on the site increased by more than 10%.) — Ensured that our messaging and content were rooted in the organization’s values (i.e, messaging was always person-first, anti-racist (with a focus on racial justice), LGBTQ+ inclusive and HIV-status neutral). — Wrote, designed and edited a wide variety of communication vehicles, including op-eds, blog posts, news statements, policy statements, social media, pamphlets, emails, videos, graphics, booklets and one-pagers. — Served as on-the-record spokesperson and prepared staff and executives for interviews.
