Dr. Rupayan Pal is an applied microeconomist. Industrial Organization Theory is his primary field of research. He has conducted extensive research in economic theory, measurement problems, and some empirical issues of considerable academic and policy significance. The scope of his research is broad and covers a wide range of topics, including oligopoly theory and competition policy issues, innovation, privatization, environmental regulations, network externalities, international tax competition, tax efficiency, non-standard preferences of economic agents, corruption, union-firm bargaining and labour contracts, water disputes, and financial inclusion and development.Reputed peer-reviewed journals, including Economic Theory, Journal of Public Economic Theory, International Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics, Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, Journal of Economics, Mathematical Social Sciences, Economics Letters, Environmental and Resource Economics, Resource and Energy Economics, Journal of Policy Modeling, Regional Studies, Regional Science & Urban Economics, International Review of Economics & Finance, Economic Modeling, and Manchester School, have published his research articles.He joined the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) in 2008 as a Visiting Fellow, after serving as Lecturer in Economics at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics from 2005 to 2008. Since 2016, he has been a full Professor at IGIDR.Dr Pal is a member of the Editorial Board of the Competition Commission of India Journal on Competition Law and Policy (since 2021). He previously served as Joint Managing Editor of the Journal of Quantitative Economics from 2010 to 2013.
