ABOUT RUBY NICHOLAS

Experienced in the retail, leisure and tourism industry, I currently work as a large carnivore keeper at West Midlands Safari Park and I am always looking for new challenges and opportunities to improve my skill set.I am deeply passionate about conservation, education and raising awareness of human impact on wildlife, rescue and rehabilitation.I have worked with a large variety of small and large species and my interests and hobbies include target rifle shooting, conservation blogging and fundraising, animal nutrition, dog behavioural training, gardening, reading and tropical fish breeding.Over the past four years, I have achieved a BSC (Hons) in Animal science and behaviour and volunteered in a variety of zoological institutions within in the UK and on the front line of antipoaching and reserve management in South Africa. I have obtained strong skills in highly standardised husbandry and captive animal management, including detailed knowledge and an ongoing interest of research, qualiative behaviour, nutrition, breeding, training and handling in a wide variety of species types and the development of conservation education. My practical experiences have served to expand my passion for animal conservation and welfare, alongside a good divergence of animal behavioural and biology knowledge coupled with modern animal care techniques that have been developed throughout my BSC degree and voluntary work in the UK and abroad. My previous retail and management experience allows me to be flexible to a wide range of duties, working hours and a fast paced environment alongside dealing with the general public.
