WORK HISTORY
Migration Engineer @Discourse
Toronto, ON, CA
Lead end-to-end community platform migrations to Discourse from legacy systems (Khoros, Vanilla, IPBoard, custom platforms, etc.): discovery, schema and permission mapping, ETL, dry runs, QA, production cutover, redirects/DNS, and post‑launch validation- Build and improve migration tooling: created a Khoros converter, added transformer/remap capabilities, expanded CSV/XLSX ingestion, and increased reliability of uploads/media imports for large datasets- Deliver successful launches across multiple communities, solving complex challenges like deep category hierarchies, permalink strategies, SSO integration, and data normalization while maintaining data integrity and minimal downtime- Standardize how migrations are executed: reusable templates, clear documentation and directory structure, validation checklists, handover guides, and retrospectives that reduce risk and accelerate onboarding- Collaborate across teams (Customer Projects, Support, Sales) to scope timelines, de‑risk cutovers, and advise on APIs/SSO/DB design; contribute public guides and blog posts to share best practices.Tech: Ruby/Rails importers, SQL (Postgres/MSSQL), Git/GitHub, SSH, REST/GraphQL, SSO (OAuth/SAML), DNS/redirects.
