ABOUT RUANNE CATAPANG
I am a UCLA Alumna (go Class of 2023!) and am currently a first year entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) student at Tufts University! Overall, I aspire to be an occupational therapist to help people live and engage in more meaningful and independent lives and also contribute to creating more accessible spaces in non-traditional areas. During my undergraduate education, I was involved in a research project at UCLA on how to make social media more accessible! Because occupational therapy (OT) has such a unique, holistic, client-centered approach to delivering care and services (an approach that I believe would exponentially improve various spaces), I aim to advocate for OT to be utilized in various spaces. Wondering what OT is and how my work would improve your space? Please reach out and let’s chat! Some areas I\'m currently committed to exploring include Assistive Technology, Ergonomics, Accessibility/Universal Design, Home Modifications, Entrepreneurship, Travel Therapy, and Emerging Practice Areas in Occupational Therapy (e.g. Mental Health, Oncology, Accessibility Consulting, etc). Outside of school, I have a knack for creativity and entrepreneurship. Being able to create and generate social impact through my creations is something I do and strive to continue doing from here on out. One of my first endeavors was starting my own business where I curated and crafted slow-made handmade jewelry pieces inspired by my culture, personal experiences, and eye for aesthetics. I love creating with intention, and I love story-telling through my work because I believe our shared stories allow us to connect and understand each other on a more meaningful and intentional level. Additionally, I enjoy content creating and hope to bridge my passions of advocating for health initiatives and using social media and content creation as a mode of accessibility to reach more audiences in meaningful ways.
