ABOUT ROLF-CARLOS KLAUSENER

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT STRATEGYOver two decades, I have been grateful to work in both the arts and education to strategize and launch effective and creative public engagement strategies. Via the Canadian Teachers\' Federation (CTF/FCE), I actively develop strategic frameworks to address teacher retention, recruitment, and working conditions writ large. DESIGN & MARKETING FOR SOCIAL GOODI\'ve elevated brands and organizations dedicated to social good through conscientious graphic design, digital marketing, communications, and video production. Notable engagements have included the National Arts Centre, Bruyère Continuing Care, Canadian Teachers’ Federation, David Suzuki Foundation, Child & Nature Alliance of Canada, Arts & Crafts, Paper Bag Records, Digital Arts Resource Centre, and CBC Ottawa. ARTS LEADERSHIPAs the founding artistic director of Arboretum (20••••18) I produced numerous, large-scale independent music festivals and multi-disciplinary events, showcasing hundreds of acclaimed and underrepresented artists to the Ottawa region. In 2016, I was welcomed to the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition’s founding board of directors. OMIC is a not-for-profit organization focussed on industry development. Their work was integral to the Ottawa Music Strategy (20••••20), a city council-approved strategy for investing in, and developing the local music industry. I have supported the creation of art and artists via dozens of successful grant applications from all levels of government, as well as agencies like FACTOR and the Ontario Creates.I have also participated in arts juries for the City of Ottawa and Ontario Arts Council.MUSICSince 2004, I have been the singer/songwriter of The Acorn. Through this collaborative project, I have explored themes of place, identity, kinship, and the immigrant experience. The Acorn has released 7 albums, headlined domestic and international tours, as well as supported major artists such as Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Calexico, and Elbow. Its albums have been twice nominated for the Polaris Music Prize, and had songs featured in film and television including the major motion picture Crazy, Stupid, Love, Showtime’s Shameless, HBO’s Californication, and others. Most recently, I wrote and produced \'ANCHORS\', a psych-dance concept album via the Ottawa/Toronto collective SILKKEN. The album features contributions from Joseph Shabason, Sylvie Smith, Gianna Lauren, Jon Hynes, and many more. It is available on all platforms.
