ABOUT ROBERT MIDGLEY
Rob is a widely recognised global expert in aviation fuels and their production and handling. Rob has represented a major oil company at the highest level of this discipline and has held numerous chair, board and representative positions throughout the industry bodies relating to aviation fuel quality, research, handling and equipment standards; building strong networks of influence while bringing real change to the industry. Within the aviation fuel discipline for Shell, Rob has lead departments covering leadership of Product Research and Development, Product Quality, Airport Fuel Operating Standards, Engineering, Compliance, Competence Development and Assurance. In parallel, the management of Shell’s Technical Services offerings to external customers has brought a commercial lens and an appreciation of where value sits for customers. This broad experience is perhaps unique in the industry, but along with his prior experience in aircraft design and heavy maintenance puts him in a unique position within the industry with insight and understanding of not only fuels and their application but also the broader industry challenges and opportunities. As a senior JIG inspector Rob is also greatly experienced in the practical application of these standards where he believes inspections are an opportunity to teach and learn. Rob has a desire to knowledge and to share that knowledge with others who find it of value. Having accumulated over 30 years of experience, he is mindful that passing that capability on to customers is part of this next phase.
