SKILLS
ABOUT RICHARD BERNIER
I am a highly educated, sociable person who roams through an organization examining key systems, assisting design teams, and creating many of the most fundamental reports required by management to run a business. I started my career as an Audit Supervisor then progressively moved into the positions of Accounting Manager, Director, Controller, and Vice President. With a Bachelor of Science and two Masters’ degrees I have been able to apply my knowledge and experience to various organizations in multiple industries which includes engineering. consulting, manufacturing, education, restaurant, retail, publishing, and travel.Improving processes to save on expenses started early in my career. My first successful project was collecting 67% of credit card write-offs. Fueled by the great sense of accomplishment, I went on to find other ways for decreasing expenses such as creating effective budgets for 500+ retail stores that saved over per year, and consolidating banking from 100+ banks to 12 decreasing service charges by 26% while improving banking relations. I also looked for opportunities to maximize revenues such as when I created processes for more efficient gift certificate distribution and tracking that resulted in a increase in sales the first year and a 10% increase each year after that. The lessons and experience that have been learned in each organization can and have been applied to other organizations. New and efficient processes continue to be created by combining new regulations and technology. Examples are an improvement in financial systems to reduce audit costs, controlling expenses by researching new services and products, implementing forecasting controls to prevent any over spending on contracted programs, and maximizing cash flows through efficient invoicing and collection procedures. Each improvement is to increase cash flow, to create meaningful management reporting, and/or to have efficient operational controls.
