ABOUT RICHARD HERWEYNEN
I am seen as a trusted technical advisor to our Clients, and a leader in the hydropower and dams industry, both Nationally, as well as internationally. With over 30 years in the Hydropower and Water Infrastructure consulting industry, I believe I have the knowledge and experience to help you.My main areas of expertise are in dams, hydropower and more recently hydro pumped storage. My work has been predominantly in the Asia / Pacific Region having undertaken work in India, Nepal, China, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Korea, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Samoa.My experience in Concrete Faced Rockfill Dams (CFRD) and Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) dams, two of the most popular dams being constructed internationally, is well recognised in the industry. I have had lead design roles on the following dams: Nagmati Dam (CFRD), Wyaralong Dam (RCC), Meander Dam (RCC), Burnett River Dam (RCC) and Anthony Dam (CFRD). Recent international RCC experience was a review role at Murum Dam (141m high), during construction, first filling and initial operation, for the Ministry of Public Utilities, Sarawak; and am currently the Chairperson for the Independent Review Panel for the Baleh HEP in Malaysia, which includes a 188m high CFRD.I have had extensive experience in the hydropower sector in India, especially during the initial 3 years of Entura setting up its office in Delhi. I have undertaken detailed hydropower feasibility studies in Papua New Guinea and Malaysia. Recent hydropower experience has been around hydro pumped storage, with the detailed feasibility study and preliminary design for the Kidston Pumped Storage in north Queensland, where I continue to be an advisor to the Client during the construction of this project. I am also currently the Chair of the Technical Working Group and Technical Director for the Tarraleah Re-Development Project. I was also had a review role in the Sihwa Tidal Power Project (260MW) in South Korea.I am active with both the Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD) and International Committee on Large Dams (ICOLD). I was part of the ANCOLD working group which updated the concrete gravity dam guidelines, and have Chaired one of the ICOLD technical committees.
