ABOUT RICHARD COWLING
I have accumulated 35 years of experience in trading and distributing polymers globally and 20 years of experience in manufacturing polymer compounds. I graduated in Chemistry and Business at Kingston University, London, which included a year in industry with BP.From 1990 to 2005 I traded polymers and managed a successful polymer trading team at Mitsubishi Corporation. Buying from the largest petrochemical producers and selling to an array of customers, including giants like Coca Cola, Pepsi, Nestle, RPC Containers. I understand both producer and end-user requirements. I was a member of the LME Plastic Futures committee and remain passionate about hedging, helping clients to use hedging as part of their purchasing strategy.In 2005 I joined Hellyar Plastics as Commercial Director and formed a polymer trading business to compliment the company’s traditional distribution and compounding. I then successfully focused the company’s compounding expertise into new sectors which enabled the company to grow and expand production. I was promoted to Managing Director in 2012 and after identifying the business opportunity am leading the company’s path to overseas production of compounds in Poland and thereby cementing Hellyar Plastics position as the emerging compounder in Europe.
